So customer calls me late yesterday afternoon, says they need about 200-230 cat6 drops installed by 8/14 can I give them an idea on cost. They shoot me a pdf of the floor plans, 2 floors 50 x 100. Plan says boxes are installed and stringed to above ceiling. He asks is $30-$40K cover it! I am thinking DAMN this is going to be GOOD weekend! Then the other shoe falls Building is an old home all walls are closed up, plastered AND they don't want any of the cables showing. No access to attic, no chase from 1st floor to 2nd. They don't want me to use the basement or if I do then all cables have to be enclosed. So, what the H*ll to do with this one? Is there some kind of large cable tray/baseboard that will let me run all these cables back to the corner room where the server room will be? Any one do anything like this before?

What the hell is that about?

Off hand I know there are several that you can install above the base moulding and will accept standard receptacle devices. You may have to use Decora inserts for use with your keystone jacks. Look at Panduit, Hubbell and others.

The question is more important than the answer.

As I understood all boxes buried above plastered ceiling. Hal is right Wire mold or Conduit will do the job. I think $40K will cover all expenses. Besides this job is not required Planum cable.

That's right meaning you can save a bundle right there.

I hope that a 3-week notice for something this size doesn't mean that you are just being shopped. A job this size says to me that the customer has known about this job for a lot longer time than that. If you manage to beat some unknown competition, good for you! There are a few of us here who would like to be in your position.

Yes, the string to above ceiling and the info I got - that the ceilings are plaster and closed up are contradictory. From the little I got the GC did all that before/without talking to the client who is leasing the space. te building is 50x100' It was a multi-family that got/is converted to office space in a mixed zone neighborhood.
Yes, my red flag also went up with such a short notice, but I have run into far worse (though not on such a large drop count). Recently I got a call on a Thurs afternoon to ask if I could look at a job for 40 data and 30 voice that needed to be live by the next Monday. I'll look at the wiremold option. I'll hear from the client monday on when I can actually get in the building and get more info on why the short notice. Though I got the feeling from the contact that he thinks he's working with PLENTY of time to get this done, so it might be jsut a matter of being clueless about what is involved.
We'll see.

Not only the time frame but you should have been involved from at least the time of demo. I would tell them you will have to cut holes and break walls because this should have been done before the walls were finished but you are going to try and use raceway so you won't have to do that.
Then tell them that it's going to cost them another 10K.
