I came across this information from Carlon that should illustrate to those of you who seem to think that installing mega runs of the latest and greatest CAT something cable as a way to be prepared for the future is not the way to go.

This is exactly what I have been recommending for years.

Conduit is the way to go, unfortunately many customers don't want to pay for it. I can't really be irked though if, in 20 years time, their building has a whole bunch of obsolete cat6 in it that can't be removed or upgraded.

Good link, Hal. I wish Carlon would stop making those pos snap-in fittings. Cold weather + snap-in fitting + plastic box = bad day. Maybe they work better in open-backed LV boxes, but it's still a pitb to remove a load of busted snap-in fittings from anything. Threaded fittings and lockrings ftw.

I don't like them either. They do have threaded adapters that have threads on one end and snap-in for the conduit on the other (better) and threaded one end with the conduit solvent glued on the other (best).

Of course this just illustrates a system using these particular materials. There are better materials out there.

I've used Plenum-Gard from Carlon, and it made a heck of a difference relative to inflexible raceway - in speed of install and the fact that it could easily be installed where conduit/raceway would have been a major project.
Some customers were not really enthusiastic about it though. A short while ago we were subcontracting on a job at Penn Station here in NYC and the GC told us they were installing flex raceway wherever they needed adds. I've been telling customers that if it's good for that environment then it should be good enough for most applications.

There is so much ignorance and "expert" advice and information out there that that's not surprising.
