I have a customer that has about 15 block type 12 port patch panels at their business. They want to go to a rack mount patch panel. The problem is the cables are too short. Does anyone know what a good solution would be on extending the patch panel to the rack?

You can't mount a wall mount above or below the 12 port to gain enough slack? There are connectors to extend the cable, but if you had to do very many it'd be a heck of a mess. You could mount CAT 5 rated 66 blocks to extend your cables. The right way would be to replace the cables.

you could leave the 12 port patch panels in place then extend them to rack mount blank panels with pass through modules using patch cords.
Like Bill said the best would be to re-cable but with 180 drops that would be costly

Skip, I was thinking about an idea like yours, but didn't know of such a panel with pass through modules. Would you know of a good supplier that has these?

Panduit makes them for their mini-com line of jacks/panels.

Gerald, could you post some pictures of the existing installation?

The question is more important than the answer.
