The prices for adapters to turn two CAT5s or CAT6s into a single HDMI are all over the map. Also, some are active with power supplies and others are passive. I have read some threads where the really inexpensive ones are prone to hits and power surges. My application involves just going from a wall inside someone's office to a TV on another wall. Not a long distance. I would like to go passive. Anyone try any of these adpaters yet? Had any success with one particular brand? Thanks in advance for your feedback.

whats the distance? I have used HDMI cables up to 100' with no issues at all. Also will they be doing blue ray or 1080P? Why not just use a component video balun, they have them with a digital audio out as well.

The distance is less than 50 ft but I am not entirely in conduit so I would have to run plenum rated HDMI or component cables which would be too expensive. So as in the past, I ran lots of CAT5E. In the past I have used MuxLab component + analog audio baluns successfully for 1080P, and may do it again, but it would be nice to have the HDMI interface and use it for PC input also with an inexpensive switch. Then I could have CATV, DVD, and PC going to the display on one cable.

I got ya. I am a big fan of mux labs. I have not used any of the HDMI stuff. Check out mcm electronics, they had a couple from different manufacturers

Here's an interesting set, small footprint, and passive. I will buy a set of these to test https://www.wyrestorm.com/30m_CAT5_HDMI_Extender_p/ext1t101.htm
