What I meant by "Ported" was local number portability. When the phone number belonged to Ameritech and the customer changed carriers and retained the same number with AT&T. Now when people call the number it is triggered to look in the NPAC database to see which carrier should process/terminate the call. Like how an 800 number looks in a database to see which POTS line it should go to. If a switch or carrier doesn't look in the database or has not updated to reflect the change it will try to route the call default to the home office that was issued the exchange. So if Ameritech did not disconnect the number in translations, very common until they need the LEN or SWOE for another customer, it will ring no-answer on their switch. Probably would be local callers, as the home switch will not look up the number in the NPAC if it contains translations for it(2-cent charge per call) ...Or is this just low ring voltage? That would be a bad lowspeed card on AT&T's DLC/SLC.

gkar: I believe it's ported as he switched from Ameritech to AT&T about 5 years ago. I actually seen low ring voltage once where it was enough to ring the cheap SLT I had but not the switch but most of the time when I could recreate the problem there was no ring voltage at all. I couldn't recreat it very often as it took hours of constantly calling in. After the meet with SBC in the morning TWO techs showed up at noon. One AT&T and another SBC. They paged me and asked where I was and I told them I had been there and did not know anyone else was coming. The SBC Tech. said he had no idea that someone was already out. They reached the same conclusion and said it wasn't necessary for me to come back. The 1st SBC Tech. said he could only recommend that AT&T change their card but the AT&T Tech. who showed up later said he could put the order in as it was a different Dept. Gkar, you have been an enormous help and I also learned a great deal. As of 8:30 this morning the AT&T Ticket was still open. I may need to be in touch, we"ll see. Thanks again, WaM

G, up until today everything was fine. 6 customers reported there was no answer. I'm going to have to replace the switch tomorrow as this is the only way I can prove to him the problem is outside. Since AT&T changed the low speed card on Jul 17,02 we have been OK. This is ported to AT&T, if SBC never took it out of their switch would the problem be intermittent? Any ideas?

Were the six callers calling from the same area or from the same LD carrier? Was it within the same time period? Have you measured the ring voltage on this line? Did this customer ever move locations after switching to AT&T? I remember you saying before you changed the line port and the problem followed. That would normally rule out your switch.

One of the callers was in Greece but the others were reported to all be local. two of the local callers were on cell phones. I'm going out today to swap the switch as it's the only thing I can do at this time to prove to him it's not the switch. AT&Ts digital service is available over the coax and I'm wondering if he should just switch. He won't go back to Ameritech because of the cost.
