Never seen anyone so happy about pulling cable. Hard pulls I use a basket weave, the harder you pull the tighter it gets. Other than that I just strip and loop the pairs back on them selves and do the same to the other end. Always tape no matter what I use to tie the cables together.

I was supposed to do a litt;e of the work today.... the guy told me it was a wall fish but apparently he doesn't know what that is. He just needs it fed through the wall! The hardest thing about this job is going to be climbing the ladder to replace the lines. It will be around 20 lines. My goodness, I went into one of the rooms that needed work and it was disgusting! There was sticky stuff on the floors and I was afraid to touch anything. The hotel was old and run down. It is on the historic part of route 66 Well, at least I don't need a glow rod now!

I couldn't remember the name for the self tightening knot either so I checked tito's link. It is called a Hitch Knot! When taping a cable to a pull cable, I always strip the jacket and reduce it down to the least amount of pairs that I feel is needed. Then I twist them together with different methods depending on how much strength I need. This allows me to have as small a finished diameter as possible. I often end up with a tape job that is close to the original cable thickness. Great for avoiding those catches that grab and lock onto your cabling!

I like to tape the pull string as high as possible up from the splice on the original cable so if the splice breaks or gets hung up I still have a chance at a pull string
covering the tape with lube helps sometimes also

We always called that knot a "half hitch". I'm not sure what a "full hitch" would be though!
That is the knot we used on all pulls where we didn't use a basket, including street pulls (manholes).

A basket weave is like a home made cable sleeve or sock whatever term you like. We even used them to pull cable to ducts when we didn't have a sleeve. Nice to pull bundles too as it really grips the cables.
