I have a guy who wants me to replace some phone lines in his hotel. I've tied coax together and replaced that before, but not phone line. Is there a special way to tie it together? Do you wrap each pair together individually or all four of them together? What about where they've stapled it to the wall; is there a secret to getting that staple out? Is there a special way to tie it and tape it and then just pull until the staple comes out?

If it's fastened, your not going to pull it out. If you have access to pull it and it's fastened just re-fish it. What's wrong with it that it needs replaced?

when I do use existing as a pull string I just intertwine and wrap well with tape if its just within a wall cavity and not stapled you will probably be OK
if stapled forget it
if there are any obstructions forget it
if you have access like Bill said its usually quicker to fish new

I didn't want to have to go buy another glow-rod! That's why I don't want to fish it again. Oh well.... it's just 40 bucks.

What's wrong with it? Customer wants me to replace it! Who am I to argue? The customer is always right. If he wants to pay me to replace them I'll replace them. So then they don't always staple them? If it isn't, that is a good thing. Tie them together and just pull them through!

The norm, at least around, here is to not fasten them down secure. If I have something I think will get in others way I just take a rubber band and staple it down on each side with the cable under the rubber band. Than if something happens to the cable I can still pull it out if need be. I never had to do it though so it's probably overkill.

Thanks for the information; I really appreciate it. I thought that it was probably just a needless worry.

Good thing I tried tying them together.... they pulled right apart! I figured out how to do it though! Pull out about 7 inches and wrap one wire around the other for about an inch. then wrap the second around the wrap you made in the previous step. then pull it tight to make sure it's not going to pull apart.

yee ha!
I figured out that if I strip the sheath off I only need about three inches. Then you fold it over and wrap the fold over on itself. Doing it like this it makes the bundle very small and you don't need tape so the bundle is very SMALL!

I always tape
