I see those protectors are available with an RJ-45 connector. Why not just go with that and no 66-block or 110-block or bix bl0ck at all? I don't know how many is too many, but the fewer the splices the better.

Thanks to all for the advice. I will do a test run and see if the 100 Base T works with two 66 blocks and two protectors. I'll let you know what happens.

If your going outdoors with a LAN, then fiber is the only "Right" way of doing it. period.
I'm sure his test will come back fine...LOL.

What is the standard? I can respect that some members here have been taught "fiber is the only way when ethernet leaves a building" but it's Not set in stone. DB cat5e and the protectors that Ed provided a link for would not have been created if fiber was the only answer..
There is NO off premise "standard" until DISTANCE is a factor.

DB cat5e and the protectors that Ed provided a link for would not have been created if fiber was the only answer.. they where created because there was a demand for them the manufacturers are in business to make products they can sell just because its on the market doesn't mean its the proper solutin we are in business to give the customer the best solution . Ethernet between bldg on copper is not a good practice and exposes the LAN to risk crimp tools and 8p8c plugs are sold at every distributor and lots of cables are terminated that way but that doesn't make it a good practice the question could certainly be asked "if crimping plugs on the cable directly is bad why are plugs and crimp tools sold ? "

[/b]you dont believe it ? you dont believe manufacturers respond to demand ? so you believe as long as its manufactured and for sale then its a proper solution .

I think you have a situation here where either solution is correct. Fiber will definitely give you better protection against lightning. However, with a short distance of 120 feet, its not going to make much difference, even with DB and protectors if you take a hit that close. I remember an old Qwest tech telling me anything under a 150 feet, and protectors aren't going to matter.
It depends on equipment too. Our customers that have multiple building type environments usually opt for fiber connectivety between switches. So it actually makes sense to run fiber, regardless of distance. If your connecting the other building to run an 8 port SOHO switch, then run a strand of gel filled Cat5 through the conduit and be done with it.
