Just as guitar acoustics come out of acoustic guitars, fiber optics come out of optical fibers.

Optical-fiber cables are what we install.

Fiber optics are the signals that are transported over those optical fibers.

We do not install "fiber optics" so don't ask us to install one/them/any.

Thank you; I feel much better now.

It would be so much simpler if people would just read.... Oh boy, my bad. shocked I read your post as schematics.

Great, someone stole my backspace key.

Symantec? Don't they make bloatware antivirus software?

Note the hypen is gone. Replaced in 2011.

While we are on this subject, does anyone have some advice on how to get started on the cheap as an optical fiber installer?

Butch,
I'm pretty sure "cheap" and "optical fiber" never naturally occur in the same sentence.

When I started, I bought my (then) needed Corning kit on e-bay for $600.00. Depending what kind(s) of ends you want to do, you could probably put together the tools you'd need for about half that. I think the cleaver was the expensive piece in the Corning kit.

There is *nothing* that cannot be done with copper. If one needs more bandwidth, one should use more copper. (IMHO)

Of course, what I just stated comes from a guy who thinks that 65 year old Teletypes, 1A2 systems and Strowger switches are really the cat's meow.

Of course, I do realize that there are those things called computers, alas. In such cases, the IBM twinax (copper) should do just fine. laugh

Please note, I am making an attempt at humor, and I am not really a technological troglodyte.

Joe
