That's the ticket. We've never had to use a hanger that required a rod (4" piece), but Erico sells a rod/hanger vertical mount pretty cheap - part HMZG315
Update on those Tek-Gun hooks. They are great, but since their base is so wide you need 2.5 self-tapping screws to go through them, through plywood, and then reach the metal stud.
The Graiger hooks/loops saved us in many cramped places, a must have.
