Well, my beachfront cable got struck by lightning and the Cat-6 protector committed suicide :-) I got it in a hurry, and now I find there's Cat-5 LAN protectors that are 8-pin in and out instead of punch down the pairs.
Since it saved a router, switch, and 7 POS terminals, I guess the $100 each end was a good investment.
