Hi,
I'm a newbie here and just installed my 1st ESI system after electing to move away from Panasonic. I'm hoping to be selected as a dealer in my area and have submitted all the paperwork requested by them and am eager to get started with any training but have yet to hear back from them...
Anyway, my question is; I need to figure out a way to remotely make changes to several aspects of the system programming for this client. Sure I could schedule an onsite visit but I would like to be able to do it remotely and quickly. I would like to be able to change the CO answer ringing scheme, the extension that is the "operator" at the time, the autoattendant branch map (not necessarily the recorded prompts though), and the department list members and their CF busy/no ans. settings.
I know the C-class does not have any kind of modem or NSP option so I have rigged up an external modem and a dialer and I can remotely dial in, and open a "virtual" COM5 in windows hyperterminal and get the command prompt. Now as it is now there is not much I can do from there but I know there is EsiAccess software that can program the system over the serial port (and IP but that's not applicable here). I asked my contact at ESI for the software but was told I need to complete training before they will give that out. But I'm still waiting (hoping?) that I will be invited to attend training... I'm ready and waiting.
Please is there anybody here that would be willing to help me out, anonymously of course, with what I need? PM or email me. Any help will be kept in strict confidentiality.
my email is: esi (at) synapticsystems.net
Thank you all for this great bboard.

To be a C-class reseller is almost as easy as asking. Depending of course on the market area your in. The next level up is S-Class which can be done with online study guide and then a qualification test, onlinne as well.
I personally won't install a C-Class anymore for the remote programming capabilities of the S-Class.
I am certainly open to corecction by others in here but I think a hyperterminal connection to a C-Class is for updating software. I don't know of anyone yet to do traditional programming on the C-Class in that manner.
Note the S-Class & C-Class price difference. It's not that big a difference, especially on a % basis of the entire system cost.
I think what I'm trying to say is get started on the right path and you'll have less headaches in the long haul.

same with grinder we do not sell c-class mostly because of the remote programming, and with VIP on a 4x8 just ask the others to match it. the only time we sell c-class is if they do not want VM. now i do not know about the online test (i have been a dealer for a while) but once you get on track ESI will help out sooooo much to make it ESI-2-Sell  Ok that a ESI joke. now back to the question i have never tried so i do not know good luck :thumb:

All C-Class programming must be done locally on the phone. As other's have said, we shy away from the C anymore just because of the remote programming problem, and because of the inability to use the 48 key phones.
the C-Class test, (online) is a no brainer, you must make an 85% with an open book AND take it until you pass!
Good luck!

Synaptics... please dont come on here asking for a plug of ESI-access. Most of us on here are dealers and would not diservice ESI by grey marketing the product. I speak for myself but im sure a few of us agree. Your sales rep in PA is probably John. Ask him to do his robot dance if you see him. Guy is hillarious. Get your dealer lic. trust me, you will open up alot more doors with it as far as sales and clientel are concerned. You cant afford not to!
The sales of the C-class is all preferance by dealer. We in San Francisco never again will sell a C class. We sold one in Oregon to a branch of SCEA. I found myself flying once to install and once more a year later to change the AA LOL...
I dont sell it because of the remote maintenance or not being able to use the 48 button set. It just does not make sense to sell that in my market here when I can sell an S for just a fraction more.
If your outfit is a C class there is nothing wrong with that either.

Thanks everybody for all your input and suggestions. I bit the bullet and took the E-Class and X-Class training course last week and passed the test. I only missed two questions on it and they were really stupid ones. I should have read each question more carefully, they were both so obvious. So that's that and I won't need to install C-class systems anymore on jobs that would call for an S!
Going back to my original question though, I am able to connect to the serial port on the c-class remotely thru my external modem setup and get a debug kind of menu. Has anybody ever seen this or played around in here? I think this the the same interface EsiAccess uses to communicate with the system and initiate the y-modem transfers. There are also some great debugging stats and reports that can be run.

Good job Synaptic... It was well worth your time and $.
I have no comment for you on hacking into the C-class. Hacking into it aint a bad thing =). I have done it with ESI-acess locally but not remotely.
