I have just Bricked a 72 E Class. It was running 2.8.0 in the 2nd slot and had 2.5.1 in the first slot. I tried to upgrade to 2.8.2 and the system rebooted into 2.5.1. All the prompts are gone and the hard buttons won't work. (Release, Program, etc...) The other funny thing is when it comes back up the display on the phone shows nothing. You have to press the speaker button for intercom dt and then press it again to drop, after it drops the display comes back. I was wondering does anybody know the power on sequence for defaulting the whole system. This is just a test box I have set up. This system has 2 684 cards and voicemail.

Sounds like either the case of a bad drive, or a bad load (maybe it didn't fully load before the reboot). I believe the version you loaded would have caused an initialization, which it sounds like it did, but then something went wrong with trying to load up the newer version of software upon boot load.
There's a procedure where a certain number of power cycles will force it back to the older version of software, but I don't know if it will work in your case.
I'm curious. If it didn't boot up properly, how did you confirm that it ended up booting back to the older version?

I was able to connect to it through ESI Access and verify what was in what slot. Another note While in ESI Access under extension programming it lists all the extensions as 0 and you can't change them to 100,101,102 etc.. Incoming calls on CO 1 display the CID but no ring and you can answer it as long as you know there is an incoming call. But the volume is low and you can't change it. I thought I might try the power cycle procedure but I could not find it. If that does not work I guess I will have to change out the hard drive

I have not called Tech Support yet. This happened last night and the system is sitting at home right now. I will call when I get home and have access to the cabinet.

If anyone is interested in the procedure to initialize just PM or Email PhoneSol.
PhoneSol, sorry I had to edit your post. The info was excellent but not recommended for worldwide viewing.

PhoneSol described a backloading procedure to revert to a previous version of software in case there is a corrupted .BIN file.- NOT an initialization.
You don't have to worry about users factory defaulting their systems. If you don't have the password, the ONLY ones who can reset it are ESI tech support.
Another hint- you can try watching the maintenance port with hyperterminal on bootup. This should isolate the problem.

You should call ESI and have them MOVE what was in slot 2 to slot 1 and then You would be able to UPgrade to 2.8.2 to slot 2. I know it says slot 2 or slot 3 , but , I was told you can't put anything in slot 3 anymore.
I can see the light at the end of the tunnel..

Here is an update finally. Tech Support cleared slot 2 and let me load 2.7.4 on it. The system booted just fine and all the phones came up but the same trouble. So I am ordering a new drive.
