Uncil-buck I wish you did not think of all installers as some of the bad ones. I have and always will put my customer first I always believe in giving my customer what they need and what they need in a phone system to make the system work properly. In your business you depend on the phone to ring so you can make money. I own 3 telecommunications companys in the US and I have always done what it takes to make my customer happy. Because without my customers I it is hard for someone to stay in business. I WILL BE HAPPY TO GIVE YOU A LIST OF MY CUSTOMERS FOR YOU TO CALL UPON.Once you do that you will see that I can for sure handle the needs of your business now and in the future. I make myself available to my customers 24 hours a day 7 days a week to take care of the needs of my customers. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me and I will do what ever is needed to handle the needs of you firm to the best of my ability. I have 22 years experience in the telecommunications industry. Have a good day.

I have a question that is off topic. We can return to your regular scheduled programming after we determine the correct spelling of ADVISOR.

When I spell it with an "O" it gets underlined in red and then I right clic to see possible options and I get:

ADVISORY
ADVISER
AD VISOR

Anyone else get this?

Now, lets get back to the current issue. Since you have already purchased the system and you have someone you have confidence in to actually install it I think attempting to get you to go with an ESI dealer exclusively from this point forward is like closing the barn door after the horse has escaped. 5years is absolutely correct in the balance of the importance of the telephone system and the operation of the business. There is a reason why telephone system manufacturers (not just esi) hate to see their products sold on ebay and other markets and it is all about reputation. If an ebay buyer puts his trust in the hands of a less than qualified tech and the expectations are not met the tech will pass the buck and blame the system. The purchaser won't know any better and the end result is a quality piece of equipment gets a bad rap, undeserved. After the system gets installed it will need to be defaulted and only an ESI reseller can do that, and that is only if the installer password hasn't been changed. If it has been changed then there is a process the ESI reseller has to go through in order to get it reset which involves a search by serial number to determine the equipments history.

Now lets say we got through all of that and we can set the system up for your office. Norvergence came and went approximately 6 software versions ago so that will need to be upgraded. ESI resellers only are capable of this.

IF this is the system we think it is then it is remotely programmable and yet again only ESI resellers can do that.

So, how do you spell adviser anyway?

John

That is a good a question for our Grammer Police (or are they our Grammor police?)

Bert,
Although I fully respect and support your researching all aspects and solutions in preparing for the install: Be very careful when considering technicians that say "I can install a specific system, but I can do a better job if I had a manual". Where I'm from, that's referred to as a RED FLAG. Like 5years mentioned, this tech may be OK for moves, adds, and changes. Installation manuals are generic guidelines for typical installs, and have been at times proven to be inaccurate or incomplete, and although they are very useful and helpful, they should not be intended to replace hiring a qualified installer. I'm certain that others here will also agree that no two installs are ever completely identical. That's where considering a certified, experienced tech comes in. We hope that your using this board will greatly assist your making these difficult, but important decisions...and by the way Bert, welcome aboard!!!

OK, breeze, I opened the hood and what appears to be a main board or card says "IVX 42s REV E2 ASSY 5010-0568". So, it looks like it's a 42s. The memory module says "IVX S-CLASS FLASH 2HR, VERSION 2.5.0, PROMPT 3.11". So, that looks like flash voice mail. No sign of any hard drive. There sure are lots of electronics in there! And thanks for the referral to Randy at Houston Voice Solutions.

Jules, I don't think of all installers as bad. I just haven't had an experience with a good one, yet. Thanks to you and the other guys on this board, it looks like that's about to change. Do you have an office in Houston?

John, your explanation makes perfect sense. I will follow your advice. Thank you. And by the way, according to the dictionary, "advisor" is also spelled "adviser". I'm not sure why the industry uses an "o" instead of an "e". Perhaps they want people to think of their financial advisor more like they think of their doctor, rather than their lawyer.

Mike, I appreciate your comments, too. My client's phone man was very candid about his capabilities. He said he'd take his best shot at it, but no guarantees. Based on the comments you and others have made, I want to use an ESI certified tech and get the job done correctly with all of the software upgrades, diagnostics, etc. Thanks and all the best.

Bert

That sounds like a good move!

One thing you might want to mention to the installing reseller, in case they don't think of it:

Because it's a 2 hour flash drive, have them reduce your recycle bin size down from the default of 10 messages per box to something like 3. It doesn't take too much math to figure out how quickly 10 messages per box would quickly take up half of your drive, not to mention the space occupied by recordings, greetings, and new and saved messages. They can always call tech support if they don't know how to reduce the recycle bin size. This is pretty much a must-do on those 2 hour flash drives.

Let us know how the install turns out.
