I've already sent this into ESI as an enhancement request, what do you folks think about it?
Caller ID Routing would enable you to target incoming calls to specific extensions, departments, or branch IDs based on Caller ID string.
This would be very simple to implement:
The telephone number of the incoming call is entered into the Caller ID Routing Entry window along with a description.
Each time a call is received from that specific telephone number, the call is automatically routed to a preassigned destination.
For example, your spouse calls your company from (913) 555-1234. The number 9135551234 was set up in the Caller ID Routing Entry table to target extension 101 with the description, Mary at work. Any time a call is placed from (913) 555-1234 to the company, extension 101 receives that call with the Caller ID description, Mary at work.

This would be an awesome feature. I know some other small systems have this feature (Inter-Tel Encore CX) I sent a similar request to ESI about 4 months ago.
I sent in a request about a year ago, but I had an idea to make it easier to use. Have a Function key called "ESI-route". When you're on a call with a caller ID caller, pressing it displays "ESI-ROUTE STORED". All future calls from that caller wil ring your extension directly. If the key is pressed while idle it allows you to edit your list exactly as you edit the speed dial list.
We had a Picazo system prior to our becoming and ESI dealer, and this system had this feature.
We used it two ways:
1. We have a few clients who are pretty particular, and don't like having to use the automated attendant and/or receptionist, so we programmed the system to route their calls directly to their sales person.
2. Telemarketers went directly to voice mail jail, and our receptionist never wasted a minute on them.
That would be a great feature, especially as Brian described it. Caller ID routing has always had the drawback of people calling from multiple lines, at their business, a cell phone or two, from home, Brians way helps that out pretty well. I like it. By the way, I just became an ESI dealer, so I will spend some time here trying to learn something. Maybe I'll dig up a few old posts to respond to just to PO Grider! Just kidding. Mark
