ESI recently introduced some enhancements to VIP that got me thinking. Most of VIP Pro's features can now be mapped to function keys. In combination with a wireless headset, this could provide a way to have limited answer/hold/ transfer capability with just a small remote maybe like this:

(maybe worn as a pendant)
I've always thought that we could do something better for the receptionist that wants to be completely wireless but does not want take a full fledged phone with her when she steps away for a moment or two. I haven't found one yet that you could map the keys as F1-F12 but there must be something out there. There are a ton of wireless PC remotes out there but they all seem to have the keys mapped to the media functions.

I think thats a great idea.

I have a pretty sharp programmer on staff. I think I will have him spend a few hours and see what he can come up with.

That is a Great idea! My receptionist is always working around her desk instead of at it, and so everytime the phone rings, she has to stop what she is doing and go back to her desk to answer the phone in case she has to transfer a call, but if this would give her a way to transfer calls with a wireless headset or pendant, I think most receptionist would LOVE this idea because it would mean that they wouldn't be "chained" to their desks anymore and could become more productive, while still performing the same job functions as they currently do.

We use the digital cordless with a headset for this purpose and it has worked well for us and some of our clients. The quick switch key also helps if the call is taken at the desk but the user must go elsewhere to get information, etc. for the caller.
