I was wondering if any of you had experience with connecting fax servers to ESI systems. I have read the posts on Mulittech and RelayFax, and just wanted to know if others have been sucessful with these connections. Potential customer has Exchange server onsite and needs fax soltuion for 15 users with moderate inbound traffic and minimal outbound traffic.

Thanks.

I connect the fax machine up to the system on almost all installations. I hope I am understanding your question using the terminology of "fax server". Connecting a fax to an ESI system not complicated at all. After the connection is made there is some programming to do also. If a fax is connected and programmed correctly there isn't a need for either a Multi-Tech or RelayFax. The ESI system has those abilities built in.

Tell us the exact model of ESI system you are dealing with and possibly I can help a little better.

James:

The Multitech server works pretty well, we have a small (one port) one at the office for inbound fax direction to our e-mail.

And yes John, you misunderstood his question, probably a long day!?

Customer wants a full blown Unified Solution with inbound/outbound fax. Look at the Mulittech information and it looked pretty good, and easy to set up. I was wondering about installs that use the Mulitech or other fax servers in a Unified environment.

I have a BisCom FaxCom Fax Server system hooked up to my ESI IVX 256X. I have 2 analog ports hooked to the FaxCom server. FaxCom installs a "printer driver" on the client PC which then allows them to send faxes from any application, but incoming faxes only go into their Faxcom Inbox in the client software. I am running a very early version of the software, and I am sure that newer versions will allow for incoming faxes to be routed to Exchange mailboxes or Outlook folders. We mainly use it for "Blast Faxes" here, and it works really good for us. I just wish I had more available analog ports and another fax board to install in the Server. It is nice to have 2 additional fax lines on my X-Class though. When someone attempts to send a fax to my fax machine, the fax number actually ties to a department, and if the fax machine extension is busy, it automatically routes to the first fax line on the FaxCom server, and if that one is busy, I have it routed to the 2nd fax line on the faxcom server. It works really good for us and my Installer was very helpful in setting up the department and analog ports for me, although I had to program the fax server myself. It has the capability to use DID's to route incoming faxes, but I am still a little unsure how that would work with the version of the software that I am using, and incoming faxes that hit the server are automatically routed to a network printer by the regular fax machine anyway. Let me know if you have any quesitons.

we have been using castelle 4 port units and they work fine with exchange or with pop3 and the same as BCHD there is client software you load. i even grabbed on of the DID's for testing and really like having it.
