Hello All,
I had a conversation today with one of our customers, a large bank. We have A 123E Main Branch and a 72E Operations ESI Linked Point to Point T-1 for about 3 years now. We had some bumps in the begining, but have what we think is success now. He ask me about security and encryption. I went to our resellers site and found nothing about this. I am gong to call My Sales Rep tomorrow and see what they have on this. My customer told me he was asked in an audit "new bank buzzword" if he was using VOIP and he said yes, he then was asked a whole line of questions about security and encryption.
Just wanted to see if any of you guy's have had any of those type questions with similar customers.
We now have an ESI 100 in our office and the set-up for the soft-phone and remote phones a whole lot better.
Thanks Again

Unless something has changed, I believe the ESI VOIP (except for SIP) is proprietary, so it's not industry standard, where someone with knowledge of industry standard VOIP protocols would be able to capture the packets and convert them. I seem to remember that being ESI's response when that question was asked back in ESI's original VOIP course (version 1.0...yes, the very first, and I was there ). That being said, I'm sure anything is possible, just like encryption isn't 100% foolproof against someone who has a lot of time on their hands. I'd be interested to hear ESI's response nowadays.

Funny you should mention this subject Rick, we just had this conversation with a large customer that we are working with to migrate to ESI equipment.
I spoke with various people at ESI and although they are using industry standard codecs the "transport" and "delivery" of the VoIP transmissions are ESI's proprietary format, and are "safe".
If you get a better answer or any documentation from ESI please share it with the class.
PS - Give me a call when you get a minute, I had some questions on the documents you sent me (thanks!).
