Hello all!

New to forum, looks a great place to exchange ideas and tips. My question is "Does anyone have any experience in overcoming the 1,000 feet limitations to installing digital ESI phones or analog ?" I know that with the new Comm Servers you can do Dig / Analog / IP on same switch but at the moment I am not certified on IP. I have a prospect that has a manufacturing facility that is well over 1,000 feet long and currently has an old AT&T 4-pair switch. Can anyone give me some thoughts as to is it possible to beat the 1,000 feet limit with an ESI 200 Comm Server? Look forward to your replies.

Hi there,
There is no guarantee but we have had success with using 22awg cable (if you need to run new cable). I have 2 techs that swear by doubling up 2 24awg pairs although I'm usually hesitant to do so. There is no set amount these options will increase the distance to, but we have clients with digital sets working reliably @ 1500 feet.

If you need to extend analog extensions using an OPX extender works very well.

If they wanted to pull new cable, why not relocate the switch toward the center of the building, & then pulls would be well within the 1000' limit.

Hello!

Thanks to both of you for your replies. We have since located a suitable site that is near the middle of the plant that is clean and climate controlled that we think will work and keep us closer to the distance limitations. We will have to do a bit of cabling but not a lot. Thanks for your suggestions.

I have a customer out in Pt. Reyes, CA that has a 1,600' outdoor plant feeder from their place of business to the home office. I have had no problems so far. Prior to the ESI 72e, they had an Avaya Partner also working flawlessly w/ that distance.
