Has anyone sucessfully upgraded an ESI 600 to a 1000? We tired last night to upgrade a 4-steel cabinet, 28 card system to a 1 plastic cabinet and 4 steel expansion cabinets with 32 cards and it fell flat on its face. Cards 1,2,3,5,7, and 29-32 would not come online and the whole thing never booted. I'm running with the theory that the mixture of beta 600 equipment (main cabinet, expansion cabinets, and hot swap port card adapters) and the new production equipment has some conflict. Is anybody using a mix of plastic and steel cabinets?

I wouldn't even attempt to do the mix of the old and the new. We've got a 1000 in operation (actually it was the first one shipped in beta) but to upgrade is looking for trouble. Different revisions of card firmware and software issues are obviously being a nightmare!
I'd pull everything out but the CO card, and see if it boots with one card, then go from there and build on in steps.

It may be one or more of the port cards' bootloaders is not getting its firmware from the CPU on Bootup. If you watch the serial port with Hyperterminal (this may save you hours of troubleshooting) you should be able to see which one. If any one of them does not get its firmware updated the system will not boot (at least that's the case with the 600, I recently did an upgrade from a 128e)

We did watch that. all 5 shelves requested download, all 32 cards requested downloads, but everything was told to boot from flash. the nsp would be up and I could the use the POTD to get in and it looked like it was running. but there were all those card that stayed solid red,the phones never came up on any card, and the power status light never got a heartbeat.
