Happy holidays everyone!

Got a customer with a 56s complaining that every so often all his phones would go off/freak out at the same time accompanied by a loud squeal/static, then go back to normal.

Anyone ever have this happen or have an idea what could be causing this? Is this a portent of something more serious in the future.

Any input is appreciated.

Thanks
Paul

Try ' adding ' to the Cable lenth, add about 35 to 50 feet of Crossconnect (I know it's ugly)But, We have a few customers like that.

I can see the light at the end of the tunnel..

ESI S-Class systems have some particulars that will cause freaky things to happen. For example, they (Tech Support)say that the cable length has to be more than 50 feet (although I have systems at customers with much less than 50 feet and never has had any problem), also they say you have to use the 1 pair black line cord that comes with the phone (although I greatly disagree with this since we always try to re-use the existing line cords from the previous system which are 4 conductor, and 6 conductor cords up to 30 feet long with no problems).
I have found just recently on new install, all new Cat 5e wiring, patch panels, cat 5e outlets, new 24 key phones, 56s system, it worked fine until we added the 2nd 482 card and adding 4 new phones. Ringing was what was affected, The line key would light (not flash)(not ring) reset the system it worked for one week ok then failed again, reset again worked for 2 weeks ok then failed, We changed the KSU, All Wiring, Replaced the 24 key phones with 48 key phones from my office, even put my KSU in and it continued to happen, turn out AT&T had a high amount of Line AC current on the cable pairs, I put a filter on each CO line and fixed the problem.

Another issue we found with the S-Class systems, was Function 14, Automatic Time Set, if turned on, we would get Graphic data in the LCD, never happened on any other system we have but the S-Class, we tested this feature on every S-Class we have installed and it turned out to be this problem. ESI has no fix.

This was a problem on the S-Class and certain 48 key phones about 1 1/2 years ago. I had a site that 3 phones worked fine, when the 4th was added the displays started showing garbage and when the 5 was added several sets squealed and became unusable. The extra cross-connect length worked, but in the end, ESI had to give me 5 new phones and a new CF card to correct it.

How old is the system and the phones? Did it start after adding any additional sets?

I had a similar problem with a 50 CS back in August, they replaced a batch of 48keys with another bunch with different serial numbers.

I think the phones with # ending in 0456 were the issue.
