In a last ditch attempt to find a way to fix a customer issue we have... I am reaching out as it seems to be the more active ESI forum on the web.
We currently have a customer with an IVX 128. They do not receive calling name. PRI is setup as an NI-2 and our end is a Cisco BTS -> 2432 IAD to their PBX.
Our switch folks have tried multiple configurations to get the name to present. The problem seems to be that the IVX wants the facility message split up. The vendor (on the ESI side) is stating the setup msg is too big and that is the reason it is failing.
Have any of you run into this in the past? Any suggestions on what the config needs to be on each side? Just trying to make our end customer happy.
Thanks

Yes it works on a T-Berd and I have a good capture. Basically we are sending called/calling/name in the setup message. The PBX wants to see the name broken out to the facility ie. Cisco has now stated this cannot be done in the BTS and based on testing, we would agree.

If it is truly a 128 ... not an E or X Class it is very old ..... and it may not work.. ESI has dramatically improved their PRI functionality since that product.

Another Thought, are they using 24 key phones? or 48 key? the 24 only has a 2 line display, where as the 48 has a 3 line display. OR: if it is a really OLD 128, they might be using the 16 key phones which also only have a 2 line display.

They were getting name with a previous carrier. I will check on the phones. We are investigating if we can move them to voicemanager which appears to be able to do this.

Well...If it Worked on a Different Carrier.... It MUST be something on Your end? You said that the vendor is telling you that something is too big? Has the Vendor called ESI Tech Support and have them get into the system remotely ?

mberishere:
I get the impression that your company is providing service via a 'soft switch'. For some reason, CLECs have determined that they don't have to conform to FCC standards.
Many telephone systems are designed to conform to these standards, as in total number of digits received for the calling number and total number of characters received in the name fields.
If more characters are received in the name field, the system will reject them.
If you are providing service via an ESS or DMS, there should not be a problem. If your company is using a soft switch, that is going to be an issue. Phone systems based upon NI-2 standards have existed for decades, but soft switches have been built by people who don't understand industry standards.
I'm willing to bet that the other provider was using a real switch at the CO and not a VoIP solution.
Only one extraneous character in the name field will cause most industry-standard CPE to reject the data.
