Previously Google had a toolbar for PC machines but not Macintosh, and now thankfully they do.

I've been using FireFox as a browser and you can add the Google Toolbar to that. Before you hit the "add", it is a snap to click on the ABC/Check in the toolbar and it highlights any errors or unknown names in red in the text you've written. Clicking on the word opens a box to let you choose another spelling or other options such as adding the word to your personal dictionary.

The Google spell checker is the most comprehensive spelling check I've ever seen and its free. These posts will be here for a very long time and it is your choice to make them look like you won the spelling bee in your school or not.

Yes, and if you had used spellcheck, it would be I'm not Im. Not that you would want anyone to know you can do correct punctuation.

How can you add it to another tool bar Merritt?

With the google toolbar open
go to View - Toolbars - Customize
Then use the mouse pointer to click and drag the ABC icon to where you want it, you can do this to all the toolbar componets

The google bar is helpful and it has some nice tools to check site traffic etc. Web programmers love it just for that reason. However be aware that unless something has changed in the last few months, one of the the ways it gets those traffic counts is by reporting all sites you visit. In the big scheme of things you may not care, but it does slow your browsing slightly.

In the google toolbar options you can shut all that stuff off and I do suggest doing that all I am using is the search and spellcheck shut the rest down.

That's great to know Merritt. I'm really surprised that the web programmer who mentioned the slow browsing to me apparently didn't know about that. Do you notice any other negative issues? Also, which browsers have you used with google? I know you run some other plug ins for graemlins etc.

I like google's spell checker, but I have ask... how come google's spell checker flags "google" as being misspelled?

because google needs to be Capped Google.

MacGyver I use FireFox browser with several added extensions I just installed the Google toolbar and haven't noticed any difference in the speed but like I said most of the toolbar is shut off

I tried Firefox and abandoned IE, Netscape, Opera and Safari forever. I have stopped all the animation that annoyed me (no blinking icons on Sundance), blocked about 95% of the advertising (stuff in the site normally, not pop-ups as they are automatically gone.) I click on an ad, right click, tell it to permmanently hide it and no matter what is in that place is gone forever.

FireFox 2.0 is almost ready to be released, its free and it has plug-ins to do just about everything.

So I can literally download it and replace IE forever? For free? Are you sure there isn't some way to charge for this that we don't see?

I like the idea, but since my credit card information has been scooped up twice this year, I am skittish.

Anyway, is Firefox pretty much the same thing as IE with regard to being a search tool? Does anyone have any bad input to offer or should I just bite the bullet and do it?

If I start using it and decide to go back to IE, will it be one of those things like AOL where it never goes away until you do an FDisk?

I've been firefox for almost 2 years now. Never had any negative issues. IE is still loaded and sits dormant. In answer to your question ED, you can try it without it trying you. It is definately not like AOL which I despised every time I heard someone mention it.

Yep Ed, you can download it, use it, try it out, whatever and still leave IE on your system. They do not interfere with each other on my machines.

I keep IE on mine because on rare occasions I find sites that will not work on firefox but they will work on IE. Something to do with macro flash or sumthin' like that.

As far as I know Fdisk went away when Windows 98 died. I know I can only get XP to do what it calls a "clean install" in place of Fdisk. But in my mind it's not as good as Fdisk.

Ed Firefox works great the tab browser is the best way to view forum pages I only had problems with it interfering with Netscape but not IE

Bobby theres and extension that lets you view pages in IE mode while still in Firefox you can set default for those pages to IE so next time it will switch automaticly

Also, Firefox can be uninstalled completely if you wish. No charge at all, not anywhere near the security holes as IE, and in my opinion much more stable. There's only 2 or 3 sites I need to go to that won't work with it, for those I use the IE extension.

Well, I just switched over to Firefox on my home PC and so far, so good. Looks pretty cool. Merritt, where do I get those good Graemlins that you use?

I have been using FireFox for about 2 years now, and really like it---but to emphasize what has been said before--DO NOT--delete or uninstall IE. QuickBooks (and maybe other programs) have to have IE in order to work. Keep IE on your system.

I just converted... I love the multiple home pages.

I do not know how I ever used IE. Anyone who still uses it needs to switch. The multiple tabs and the way Firefox handles downloads are vastly superior to IE in both ease of use and security.
I still do have IE installed, but I have not opened it in months.

I have used firefox since there was a thread here awile back and love it. The only complaint that I have is I can't use the touch pad on my laptop to scroll.
The touch pad has an area to slide your finger up and down and side to side without clicking.
