Post away my friends, my first install of an Iwatsu was fine except they sent the damn manual in Japanese, we had to hold up the job and wait for them to send us an English manual. [Linked Image from sundance-communications.com]

I went to IDS128 school. The JApanese to English translation mention ARS programming to different states area codes. We could never find Kenfucky on the map. Hope that didn't offend anyone..I know how sensitive telephone guys are.

Did all the products from the 412 to the ZTD back in their prime in the late 80's.
We picked them up back then because of the dumping taxes that they put on the Japanese companies like NEC and Panasonic. They brought their product in the back door through France.

Remember the original "Jap in the Box" voice synthesizer on the IDS?

Also the crazy jack wiring on the EX series?

Tech support always said "Ah Soo you follow pin numbers not crazy Yankee color code!"

All in all the Iwatsu brand was as tough as a tank, the equipment just ran and ran....

Couldn,t sell too many of them calling them Iwatsu in fact the NY sales offices had us use "Omega phone"....

Sold a ton of Iwatsu with CCA in the early 80's. My company ran a service call on one of them today. The ZTD keeps on running and the customer won't replace until it croaks. The only service revenue I ever made on this one was MAC and I sold a Key Voice voice mail that never breaks. That dammn name recognition though..... Every time I would propose Iwatsu the customer would say God Bless You.

Yes name recognition. How do you handle that one? I usually let them know about the MTBF. You can also get a list of national accounts off of their site. There are some pretty big names on it. I can't count the number of times I have had customers stop me and ask me about a Nortel switch while I was in the middle of a Adix feature pitch. But I love the product. Once they make the commitment they are almost always satisfied.

In reference to the 100K guy something smells wrong - Iwatsu systems are relkiable but inevitably they don't carry the feature set - the ability to communicate seamlessly amongst facilities that other systems do. Years ago ina campus environment they said a centralized operator was available but failed to mention there was no DSS BLF functionality so an operator wa sperforming for lack of words a blind transfer between sites. In addition they used 2 channels simultaneously when the call timed out or was sent to a centralized VM. Bet they haven't fioxed teh CLID dial out function - perhaps on their unfied messaging platform supplied by that Canadian outfit? Again a reliable system but not as featrure enhanced as others especially in th netwroking department. Did you include Cisco in your RFP? Very very big player in NYC area and their phones look pretty cool.
PS If you are buying in GA and looking at BTS - Lenny Berman - good luck -especially on maintenance fees.
