In the programmer it is at 256 ports for the system size. So I would assume the recommended path would be to upgrade it to a Mem-L card?

Doubledown That's correct - MEM-L. The alternative is to install the cards in slots 3-6 of the third shelf. Those are physical ports 65 - 224 if your system is an APS.
