Do you Know anything about it? For instance, does it compare to the Avaya IP office. Quality wise?

Well, Fonality (and its twin Trixbox/Astersik) are NOT in the same league as the IP office, or any other real IP-PBX, IMHO. Quality? Well, it depends on several BIG factors: What type of server is it installed with? Does the installer and programmer actually know what he/she is doing? If not than it could be a huge mess to clean up. More often than now this type of "solution" is implemented by people that have no idea about voice; they may be good at data, but voice is another matter. If one knew a lot about it it could be a good solution for a small business.
These are only my opinions though, you can find a lot about the * brand here.

We are talking to a customer that was talked into buying a system at a trade show-end result a VAR who has no idea what he is doing and zero support form Fonality, they now havew 20G worth of boat anchor. Seems that Digium and Asterix have no love for these guys either.

The problem I see with Fonality is that they require a VPN from the customer premise to their site. Brings up questions of security and privacy as Fonality has the full database (names, passwords, etc.) sitting in front of them.
