I have an older Mac Mini, pre intel chip. Can I load Linux or Trixbox on this? I tried putting the Trixbox CD in, but it wouldn't boot to it. I am not an expert on Mac, so maybe I wasn't even booting it right????

I don't think you're going to be able to do that. You'll need to use a PC.

You will need to spend some time google to answer that question. I am pretty sure your only option (if there even is one) will be linux that supports EFI booting.

Your best bet would be to find an x86-based anything if you want something little and light-weight to play with. There are PLENTY of small ITX-platform computers that you can use like Intel Atom, Via C3, AMD Geode, etc.

I pretty much figured that I would be stuck with a PC. I just had the old mini laying around, so I wanted to use it. I will look around for a small ITX unit to run.

I ended up buying a $50 intergrated ITX motherboard with a Celeron processor. Stuck it into a $25 mini case. The whole setup is the size of a thick laptop and hangs on the wall. It was so easy to setup. For what it is worth, I like the intergrated motherboard so much, I bought another 4 of them to start. I having about a dozen phone systems that I can't really get to via IP remote. So I am going to build a few of these little machines to use as remote desktops right next to the PBXs.

Care to share your source for the $50 board/processor?

looks like the kicked up the price a bit from the sale price, but it is still on sale for 58.99 and free shipping from Newegg. You will need laptop ram, 4200 I think. Can be found on ebay for $5.

here is the link to the board.

You can load Debian to the PPC architecture https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Debian

What are your plans for the old mini?

I think I am going to load Debian on the old mini and see what it is like. From the sounds of it, at my experience level, I am probably not going to know much difference in any of the Linux setups.
