This category has been recently added so that we can assist any of you who may have questions regarding the proper installation of aerial or underground cabling. Many local jurisdictions are beginning to enforce NEC requirement, although they have been in place for years.

We are here to help you with any questions, design issues, etc. that you may have.

I cut my teeth (hands, legs, . . .) on the line crew before starting my business in 82. I would be glad to give any advice on what NOT to do. Bell promoted a splicer as the supervisor over our crew. Nothing better than having someone who knows absolutely nothing about what you are doing telling you what to do. But that's the way it's done. 3rd level supervisor comes around and asked the 1st level which worker would be supervisor material. Well, we don't want to promote Jim - he does all the dirty work. And Bill is the only one keeping his labor units up every day. Now Bob screws up everything he touches. Let's promote him and get him off the crew. Anyway, I'm kind of off the subject.

If you plan to do outside plant, DO IT RIGHT or DON'T DO IT AT ALL.

Great Forum. Thanks.

Mark, that was the Bell way. Those that can do, those that can't supervise.

---- and those that supervise ----- can't.

Ed, glad to see this came about. Any one doing Bicsi campus, or plants, or mills, any thing that leaves a building, should be aware of the correct ways of doing it.

Ground , ground, then bond. [Linked Image from sundance-communications.com]

KLD, no joke, we had a guy who couldn't handle being a first line supervisor! They put him back to craft, then wanted to fire him. At the time I was the union rep and told them they had their chance and blew it when he was management. I think you and I are on the same page when it comes to grounding. Probably that OSP training is what drummed it into us. Like Ed said we'll be looking for your help in this category.

Substantial PUC fines when violations are not corrected: (Yes, that k = 1000)

Oregon: $50k per violation
Washington: $1k per violation / per day
New Jersey: $1k per violation / per day
Ohio: $1k per violation / per day

At least that is what I am being told.
