Can someone please tell what the trick is to opening up a t- set. All screws are out and something still holds the set together.

There is a screw under the part number sticker.

I found that. There seems to be some kind of rivet, made of steel.

We take them apart every day and never have a problem. We are talking about a Norstar T7316 here right?

Did you take off the snap-on base stand?

We've seen this coming from the field, there is a steel ball bearing instant glued over a screw.
If you can pry that out you can access the last screw. Don't use acetone/finger nail polish as it will ruin the finish of the set.

Interesting. We have not seen that yet. Do you think it is a particular reseller doing it?

I've only seen it about 3 times over the last 2 years. We repiared all the Nortel sets for Bell South before they became AT&T and we saw this coming from thier def returns. I didn't notice any source labels as it happened on seperate occasions. I used to think it was one particular Tech or site that was doing it, until this post was started!!

So it is a ball bearing....very hard one at that. A diamond tipped mini grinder couldn't even put a dent in it. Are you sure it is just glued? It should just snap off with the right tool...I guess. Back to the ole drawingboard.

I used an old angled flush cutter(for trimming leads off electronic components)to get it out. It pretty much chewed up the cutter in the process but a cutter is cheaper than a phone.
