Hi we inherited this phone from my wifes office. It was used with a computer terminal. Anyhow, hooked it up and it will ring in but cannot dial out.(no tones when keys depressed)I opened it up and found two wires from the pad disconnected (orange and lavender) covered in electrical tape. Two other wires are disconnected ( blue and white) from the line imput (from the wall jack). Can anyone tell me where to connect all if not just some of them so we can dial out. This is a great vintage phone and we want to use it.

try reversing the polarity first , depending on the age it could be polarity sensitive

Thx for your reply Skip. I'm sorry, I am so new to this I don't know how to even begin to reverse polarity. I need step by step directions or a clear picture of the inside of one of these so I can reconnect any wires that have been intentionally disconnected.

reverse the wires on the phone jack that you are plugging the phone into (the ones connected to red and green on the phone jack) leave the phone as is for now

Ok that didnt work. I'm wondering what was (un-done) to use the phone as a modem dialer with the computer terminal? The two wires coming from the keypad that were taped off appear to be necessary for tone...No?

The disconnected leads have no effect upon dialing.

Clean the contacts is about all you can do. Also check the wiring. I tried but was unable to find the wiring diagram. Might want to post in the antiques phone category to see if anyone has a wiring diagram.

Check THIS out from the Antique Telephones forum. It's close, but since it's from my memory, it may be off a little.
