I finally threw out the 66/96 manuals last year but I thought that I remember there being a battery strap on the CPU boards that would default the system for you. hope this helps

Simply removing the battery strap isn't a good way to default, because residual voltage (held for a while by capacitors) will hold some of the info in RAM, and you may not get a full default, which is worse than none at all. Once you've removed the battery strap, make sure you know where ground is on the CPU, and short the terminal (of the two terminals the strap was on) that is NOT hardwired to the battery, to the board's ground. Remember, this will not only default the system, but will also remove LCR and any other downloadable options.

standard operating procedure at Executone field service was to just remove the battery strap, count to 30 and restrap. never had to go any further than that.
telling a tech who is not sure which side the battery is hardwired to short to board ground is always a potential for disaster.
