I've got a customer that has a POTS line installed at his shop (basically a storage garage). He has that number forwarded to his home number which is located in a different local exchange outside the city.

He would like to be able to forward that number to his cell phone during business hours (when he is available that is) and to his home after hours.

Is there any way of doing this remotely? He doesn't go to his shop every day so he would like to be able to call in to make the change in forwarding numbers.

Most telcos around here offer this feature under a variety of names. The most recent one that I have heard of is "ultra forwarding". They call into a special number and are promted to enter the number they are forwarding, then the number that they want to forward TO.

The easier way is to just have call forward-no answer added as a fixed feature. If he doesn't answer after X rings, it automatically forwards to the fixed destination number. Not as flexible, but also doesn't require him to think about doing it.

He has had it this way for 10 years and said he called the telco back about 5 years ago and they informed him he had to be on site to make the change.

I'll get him to call again, maybe they now offer that feature here.

See if his carrier offers "Call forward variable with remote access" It works like a standard call forward variable but you also get an access number and pass code to control the feature remotely.

As ED said some carries may call it ULTRA FOWARDING.

That's what your customer needs, TP. :thumb:

Remote access call forwarding is referred to as "Ultra Call Forwarding" by more and more providers. It costs a bit more than routine call forwarding, and uses a toll free number, along with a PIN#...then you just follow the instructions.

A quick word of advice to pass on to your customer: Once you activate it, place a test call to the number being forwarded to confirm the programming, because accidentally misprogrammed digits could result in enormous LD charges if the calls are being misforwarded.
