I used to use a pre paid card from sam's I believe it was 8 cents a minute , I had the access and PIN number programed into a speed dial
no connection fee
first button was access number , second button was the pin
I really don't do that much LD and now I just use my Cell

Here is a site that compares calling card rates compare rates There are many more places that sell the cards then this site but it will get you started. Make sure you check the connection fees and increment time There is also a FAQ\'s page to answer calling card questions

My AT&T card from Sam's is 3 cents per minute. It last a long time as I only use it when traveling.

1) Just get basic dial tone from at&t.
2) With T-mobile, switch to the lowest priced 2-year contract plan.
Do the bulk of your calling from your cell phone and use the land line for emergencies and/incoming calls. Most people will then call you back on the cell, since that's the Caller ID info that will show up on their cell phone or office equipment. One of the disadvantages of Caller ID, I'm afraid.
