I have a head scratcher. On a standard 1FB, is the ringing voltage superimposed on top of the talk battery or does it replace the talk battery during the ring cycle?

That's what I expected, I have a phone system and pairgain that aren't agreeing on how a line should ring and be answered.

"Aren't agreeing" ???
What is the exact problem?

And you aren't going to see that unless you look at it with a scope. If the line rings and you can go off hook and the ring stops I can't see what the problem is.

Avaya IP Office fed off SLC5. Receptionist picks up phone and it stops ringing, but caller still hears uninterrupted ringing. The receptionist phone will start ringing again and the process repeats a couple times until after 3 or 4 pick up hang up rounds it will answer the incoming call.
The lines worked fine on their previous system for 10 years and worked fine on a Partner system we took over for testing.
Initially we had a problem with no audio cut through on the lines if you answered them between the ring cycles. I would imagine that's because there was no battery to monitor for current flow and off hook.

Does it work with your test set? IP Office isn't looking for anything special in answering analog trunks... Mike

I'm with Mike. Check it with a butt set and make sure it can be answered from the demarc.
See if you have split pairs (Tip from one line, Ring from another).

Works beautifully on a butt set, worked with previous phone system, voltage looks fine, current looks fine, hear caller ID spill just fine, just can't be answered. There are five lines to the system, 4 come from the SLC5, 1 comes from a different type of pair gain and it works fine. I can move that line to any port and the problem follows the four lines.

MBSWWYPBX LOL... Sorry, couldn’t help myself! Telco guy ya know! Mis-optioned or bad card in the Series 5 pairgain system. Can you pull dial tone for out-bound calls from your buttset without a problem?
