I have an IDS432 system with only T-1 circuits for trunks. It's configured so that all trunks accept calls from all of our phone numbers. Calls are then routed to lines and ID's based on DNIS. How would I configure a DISA dial-in line? Is it possible when the lines don't have specific phone numbers? Thanks.

In the Y-A (DID progrmming submenu of Digit Translation) screen, choose (or enter) the DID or DNIS digits you want to dedicate to DISA. If your 432 is using the ECPU, enter 130 as the destination. (This also works in the 228 CPU.) With the ACPU, enter 706. Calls to that DID/DNIS number will work the same way as calls to a POTS line programmed for line type 100, providing a dial tone that expects a four-digit DISA access code.

Thanks, IDS! I got in using 706 (I have an ACPU) and successfully entered my access code. I was then able to dial an extension and ring a phone. But when I dialed 7, I got a fast busy. Do I need another option turned on to use the silent monitor remotely? I have the silent monitor feature locally but would like to use it over the DISA line.

Remote Silent Monitor cannot be used with DID/DNIS programmed to DISA. It is not a separate download option, and does work with POTS DISA (line type 100 etc.) if you have the silent monitor download. But to work with DNIS/DID you either have to call an internal user who is set up for silent monitor and get them to transfer you into it, or you have to set up a single line port looped to an unused CO position programmed for POTS DISA, and point a DID at the single line port. If you do that, be sure to use the single line card that supports the SLI disconnect option, set that option to Y in the A screen for the looped single line port, and play with the drop pulse timer for the looped CO position if necessary to make sure that that CO posititon drops the single line port when the external party who is doing the monitoring disconnects.

Also, be aware that like any of the workarounds that use SLIs looped to COs, you're going to have a volume drop of at least 3 dB. Since Silent Monitor users already sometimes complain about low volume, this can be a big issue. An expensive solution to the volume drop is to insert a line amp (with gain control, and supporting drop pulse passthrough) into the SLI-CO loop, but that gets quite tricky.

Thanks, Mr. IDS! It's taken me over a week to reply because I had to find a LS/GS card to throw in the system. I had one POTS line on my MDF, so I was able to connect it up. Everything works exactly as you described. The users will have to tolerate the volume drops. Thanks again.
