Greetings, I have a customer that wants to install a second IDS cabinet approximately 2200 feet from original cabinet. As I recall, there was a tech document that specified the maximum distance between boxes - but I can't find my copy. Does anyone have real-world experience with this configuration? Recommendations? Thanks Mike

Copying and pasting from the IDS Technical Manual...
"Make certain when planning the location of the cabinets for the 432 and 648 that the cabinets are within 20 feet (6.1 m) of each other".

There was a subsequent "tech fact" that specified a significantly longer distance... Memory says it was in the 2000' range - I just don't want to cut it too close. Mike

I have also heard another number for this, I believe that it was up to 1/4 mile, but don't quote me on it. I guess it would depend on signal degradation and speed variant of the signal as it passes thru that much more glass. Sharpen those pencils, guys.
If you can read this, you're in range.

I have not seen any two or three IDS cabinets connected beyond the 10 meter fiber cable. However I have seen a Inter-tel 512 system connected to a third cabinet (about 1,200') thru a RAD. (www.radfiber.com/Home/0,,6,00.html)
Good Luck

2600 feet.
I hooked one up a couple of years ago, at around 2500 feet, No Problems.
And then, we had a customer with a 648, with all 3 cabinets in different buildings, again, No Problems.
I can see the light at the end of the tunnel..

Ditto, I have a customer who has two cabinets 1/2 mile apart from one another. I also have a customer that has the primary cabinet in one building, and the remaining 2 cabinets in the same room in the second building, No problems.

Have hooked up 2nd cabinet at 2600 feet and third cabinet was 1200 feet from second cabinet.
Executone made a 3 meter and 10 meter fiber that could be ordered when connecting cabinets together.
Good Luck!!
If all else fails, use a BFH.

Thanks to all for responses. Looks like 2200 feet will not be a problem. Regards, Mike

We used 2 IDS cabinets for the Executone intercom system at P&G in cincinnati. the distance between cabinets was over 3,000 feet. The fiber worked well and it saved us a lot of cabling money. Multi-mode fiber if i recall. good luck Tj
