Okay I thought a PRI was a T1? (Showing my telecom ignorance here)
The one we have installed is a T1. 23 channels with 1 channel being the call signalling channel or something like that..?.

Well a T-1 is a T-1 PRI is really the type signaling being used on the T-1 and you get more options with the PRI. You can get other types of signaling that is what Lightning was pointing out.

A T-1 is 24 channels of 64Kbs. data width. All call functions per channel are in the packet within the channel. If the carrier has the switch that will do it, they can provide ANI on a T-1, however, as Lightninghorse pointed out, most carriers won't provide the service.
Today, with ISDN PRI being the poison of choice from most carriers, the span is now 23 bearer channels with the 24th data channel as the channel that carries all the call data for the other 23 channels. Both are T-1 at 1.544 Mbps, however, the PRI makes Caller ID an easy provision for the carrier.
We also service a hospital that has ISDN PRI and they have a crisis line that the carrier (Verizon) has optioned the feature to see CID, even on a blocked phone. From what I understand, the hospital got special permission from local law enforcement to have this feature and I think it happened because local law enforcement dropped their crisis hot line. You might want to check with your local law enforcement and carrier to see if they can make this available.

Rcaman Thanks I will check into that, we work very closely with the local Police force, even have a couple staff that ride around with the Mental Health support team.
