It's bad enough that they sell telecom equipment. Now they are cutting into the security meal ticket as well.

I haven't seen that yet, I'll have to check it out. I'm sure I'll be at Home Depot by the weekend. I was under the impression here in the states that SES had an exclusive on DSC. Darn good systems, I seldom use the Ademco or "honeywell" (as I guess it is now) anymore. MrG

I wonder how in the world they found subs. If you look, they are selling the installs for $140 and are using their own monitoring company. This will be just another case of a large licensed subcontractor sending unlicensed techs out to do a hack install.

If they do start selling equipment they will probably be cheaper than my suppliers. I have a feeling this will make it hard to sell DSC equipment because of the problems that will no doubt result from DIY installations. Personally, I think DSC is shooting themselves in the foot if they start selling their product like this. This reminds me of when Sam's first started selling camera kits with the cheap cameras and monitors years ago. I can't remember how many times I drove to a customer's location to give them a quote for a high quality camera and monitor system installed only to have them call me a day or two later to see if I would install the one they just bought at Sam's. I told them to get the person that sold it to them to install it. To which they always replied "But they don't install them". I simply replied "I don't either".

Tyco doesn't care about installers that install DSC because these installers are basically competing with another one of their companies, ADT. I got out of the alarm business when Tyco bought DSC.

That was the main reason I stopped selling Ademco. Honeywell bought them and we were now competing against an installation/monitoring company with the same product. They then sold the monitoring part of it to try and show good faith/non competition (or so the rumour goes). Then the Tyco/ADT/DSC as you mentioned. I started using more Paradox but DSC still does fit a certain need. It was the lesser of two evils (between Ademco/DSC) because ADT, although aggressive with their advertising and soliciting, isn't hard to win quotes against. ![[Linked Image from users.pandora.be]](https://users.pandora.be/eforum/emoticons4u/happy/045.gif) As for being cheaper than the suppliers T.T., that's exactly the problem. Pretty bad when I can buy Cat3 3pr or 4pr at H.D. cheaper than my suppliers (it is General Cable though ![[Linked Image from countingcows.de]](https://www.countingcows.de/baeh1_boese.gif) ). Electricians tell me Romex is cheaper there too. I know a few contractors here that are the H.D. approved guys, the subs so to speak. They don't get rich on it but H.D. loves to credit their accounts, if you know what I mean.

I have not been to HD since this thread started but I can't find anything that indicates this is a reality here in the US. Is it happening in Canada already?
I've looked at DSC's website a great deal as well and still don't see any info about it.
