Maybe they are trying to see what kind of response it will get. What did the flyer say?

I posted the link in my second entry here.

There wasn't a lot of info. No mention of DSC, just a picture of a PC5501 keypad.

I saw that the other day. I didn't realize it was a flyer.
That's the page I was looking for at homedepot.com LoL, no wonder I couldn't find it.

I originally saw it in a flyer I received in the mail. I found the same flyer on-line so I could post the page here to show you. I found it on homedepot.ca though so it may not be in the States yet, but I'm sure it'll be coming there shortly too.

I'm sure it will get here sooner or later.
I may be jumping the gun a little bit by thinking this will cause the DSC brand name problems.

As you mentioned earlier, DSC was not mentioned in the flyer and it is not visible on the keypad in the picture.
They may be providing the equipment to Home Depot but their name will not be in the spotlight.

I had forgotten about it but DSC did the same thing years ago with a big security systems company here in the US.They may still be doing it for all I know. I can't recall the name of the company but the equipment was definitely DSC equipment. There were a few minor differences in the programming but the information was not hard to get back in those days. These changes made the equipment proprietary enough that it was stamped with the company name on it in place of DSC. I'm guessing they will do the same thing with Home Depot.

I had to ship one of those panels back to DSC to get them to remove the installer lock out for a customer and it was easy enough to program it and get it working after I got it back.

I'm sure this will cut into the market somewhat but I don't think it's going to be a major hit if it goes like I'm thinking.

Bobby, GE does the same thing with its "Security Pro" line. A couple fairly large companies in Ohio have their logo on the systems. I have been using Honeywell Ademco systems for most of my installs. I have been pleased with the support they offer. I am not very familiar with the DSC line although I have used them when the customer already had one installed. Any PRO's & CONS?

Both lines are good.

I personally think that both brands are easy to program using their software, however, I find DSC easier to program via keypad.

DSC also has a built-in TLM circuit which I don't believe Ademco ever added. The "telephone line monitor" circuit itself has it's pros and cons. I have had installs were I've had to turn it off due to false trips (phone line voltage disappears a lot) but I also have had it save me a few times too.

Geez I'm late responding. Sorry about that. frown
I guess I will always have a soft spot in my heart for Ademco panels because that's what I learned first in the security systems business. And they are rock solid for the most part like most of the others.

I have to agree with TP about the TLM but one of the best features I like is the "quick exit" that DSC came out with on some of their basic systems. I do not think it has caught on in the other brands yet. Just a guess though.
In case you are not familiar with that feature, what it does is let you punch a code and exit through an entry/exit door without disarming the system.

Which means I don't have to wake the wife up when I want to go hunting early on a Saturday morning or if I have to leave early for work. Either way, my life is better. laugh
