It is LCD keypad

I had the display but I wasn't able to program anything

couldnt set the time or date

. I was trying to enroll the keypad , the manual says it must be in slot 8 but then the manual for the keypad says slot one .

I was trying to assign it to slot one when I lost the display . and just had the yellow trouble light .

I need to get this going by Monday so I have a little time to play .

all I want are 6 zones , zone 1 four doors delayed . the others all windows immediate . no phone call out. siren only

so for shop testing /setup an use the resistors to complete the zones ?

If that's a brand new system, it will default the keypad to 18 anyway (partition 1, slot 8). This doesn't affect your programming though.

It will default to EOLR on, so yes, you can just loop out the zones using the resistors for testing on the bench. Again, this doesn't affect your initial programming.

I can't figure out why you lost the display though. There is a "power save mode" on those that will blank the keypad to save battery when the AC is missing after a certain length of time. This is also normally defaulted as off and even if it was on, by pressing buttons, the display should come back.

I would hook it up on the bench and go in right away and do a software default on the panel and then do a software default on the keypad.

Which keypad are you using? The LCD5501Z or the
LCD5500Z?
When you change the keypad address in the software
you have to change it on the keypad with the dip switches on the back of the keypad. It's been many years since I fooled with the keypad address so I'm going from memory on that and I can't find anything about the keypad settings in the manual. I leave them all at factory default for the most part and it's never been a problem.
Help us out here Simon 'cause I'm out of date on that stuff.

As far as the resistors you have a choice of using them or not but I think it's better to use them.
The controlling factor is which switches you are using, N/O or N/C or both actually.

A helpful tip: When you program the zones you have to program all 6 zones. Any zone that you don't have anything hooked to should be programmed as a "Null" zone by entering 00 for that zone.

LoL Simon must have been typing at the same time but he's faster than me. laugh
I think I'll sit back and let Simon take the lead on this one because he's definitely more up to date on this system that I am and I don't want to add to the problem. frown

set it up on the bench , same thing , display flash's briefly at power up then yellow trouble light solid, keypad is lit but no display , to initialize the keypad I need to go to installer program which I obviously cant do .

I tried to default the panel with the jumper from Z1, as per the manual but same thing . so off for a replacement

its new kit rf5501-433 keypad (no dip switchs) . PC 1555mx panel

You have a bad keypad.

No dip switches on DSC, no initializing keypads, just assigning.

Not assigning won't affect what you are doing, as a matter of fact, with single keypad system, you don't have to assign. The panel will find and assign it automatically as an 18.

took the keypad back and that was it . new one came right up

looks like I'm almost there

right now I have all zones strapped with resistor but Even in the ready state I get a alarm if I break the connection .

What am I missing ?

we should be able to open and close doors and windows
leave them open .

now I have to enter my code to disable the alarm

In Zone Programming, section 001, you should have your delay door defined as 01 and the rest of your windows as 03 (instant). This will cause the ready light to go out when you open the strap, but not cause an alarm unless the system is armed.
