I'm on a job where they had one control panel using line 2 for the alarm.

They just renovated the offices and will be installing a 2nd control panel.

Do these share the same line or do they have to be on separate lines?

Burglar alarm or fire alarm?
I'm guessing they are just expanding the zones of their system.

It all depends Dave. If it is a fire Panel then you will need two lines. If it is two separate bugler panels..then you will most likely need a second line. if they are just adding zone then you will probable only need the one line. it really all depends on how the alarm guys decide to set up the dialer. You are going to need to talk to the alarm guy and find out what they need...or just wire an extra RJ31X near the panels, if they need it they can use it...if not no harm done

Anthony, I did wire in the extra RJ31x as I'm moving the system to a control room within the offices and didn't want them screwing with my BIX field. It was after that that I realized there might be a problem.

As far as I know they're both for fire & theft.

I'm pretty sure that the new box is not an extension of the first as I didn't see any new wires heading back towards the warehouse. I was also told that they had a break-in recently (literally). The thieves went right though the outside wall and stole a bunch of computer stuff. Guess there weren't any motion detectors installed before. :bang:

I'll try and get their coordinates and have a talk with them.

I would think since there is only one line now you are talking about a security system.

One way to do this and use the one line is to tie the panels together by a zone in each panel.
Basically the way it works is that if either panel has an alarm it will generate an alarm in the other panel. Then the alarm will be reported to the monitoring center regardless of which panel an alarm occurs in.
The alarm company should know how to do it.
