Good evening I was hoping someone could answer the following.
I currently have a DSC hardwired system.
The board in the basement is a DSC PC-1832, I have 2 Panels (1 Main floor,1 Upstairs) PK5508.
My Setup is as follows Location# 1-Front Door/Garage Door 2-Main Floor Motion 3-2nd Floor Motion 4-Living/Dining Room Windows 5-Kitchen Windows/Sliding Door 6-Family Room/Office 7-Basement Windows 8-Smoke Detector/CO2 Detector
I plan on upgrading to wireless using the RF5132-433 unit. Also I was looking to upgrade the 2 PIR's.
I found a company online VITEKCCTV.com that sells the following item VT-PIRC2. I would like to use these instead of my current PIR's however I want to make sure they would work. I know I would have to run a cable to capture the video and I assume the wire for the PIR portion would be the same but I'm not sure if I would still require a power source or if the existing DSC wires would suffice. The tech specs show this unit I believe requires a 12VDC (300mA) power source and consumption is 1.2W.
Lastly on top of the 2 motions currently I would like to install an additional motion on the main floor and 2 downstairs using the same VITEK PIR camera. Would I have enough power for all these or would I have to run power cable ? What about zone limits I assume I could have the extra PIR on the same Zone as the current main floor but what about the basement PIR's which currently don't exist?
I appreciate any advice someone might be able to provide.
Dave

I would run camera's power separately. Motion and doors sensors low amps devices but camera is different story. You have enough zones in the existing configuration to handle your staff if we are talking about up to 8 wired and 8 wireless. Otherwise you would need 8 zones expansion.

The manual for the VT-PIRC2 recommends using copper shielded rg59 which makes sense. You can use RG59 siamese cable which has an 18/2 for power. and then use the existing cable to run the PIR. I would use a dedicated 12v power supply for the cameras (the sell inexpensive 4 channel power supplies just for this)and then run the PIR off of the panels aux power supply. As far as cabling for the new PIR's you need to run a 22/4 cable. Also are you familiar with programming the DSC? Once you add the zones to the panel you will need to add them to programming as well.

Wow, you guys are quick...thanks for the replies. I will run a separate power/video cable for the camera portion and use the current line for the PIR only. I will only be installing the 2 for now (see how that goes just replacing current PIR's) I do not have a programming guide for the DSC system so maybe when I upgrade to the wireless I will have the tech install a couple more zones for future use.
Do I need to disconnect anything when switching over the PIR. I see the current has four wires. I assume the new PIR has the same connections just unscrew and screw into new sensor.
Thanks again, Dave

That is correct Dave, you should have a red and a black that is the + and - for power. The two others are normally green and white or yellow. That is for the nc and c. They only other thing is you should seal any holes you make in the PIR to pass the wires. this will keep bugs out and keep false alarms down. Good luck

Just to clarify do I need to turn off anything. I assume the current PIR is powered. Is it safe to just unscrew the four wires and screw them into the new PIR. Thanks again!

I would shut the system down before rewiring the PIR's. More for the safety of the system. You are only dealing with 12 volts DC, but if you short the power leads by accident you risk damaging the alarm panel. Just be careful not to ground out the red or black leads. Remember that you need to disconnect the backup battery as well as unplug the transformer.
