I recently installed one ip camera in 8 different shoe store locations in Alberta. I was in Calgary and they could adjust the forcus of the camera from Minnesota. Installed cat5 for the camera it connected to their network via poe switch and a special server for the camera's connected to switch. Hopefully I have a few more to Install after the new year..

I installed a whole bunch at JFK airport. They ran on fiber (real long runs) and worked beautifully.

But for the life of me I can't remember which ones they were :-(

We use Nuvico cameras and DVRs. They work beautifully. We have installed hundreds and if you use their DVRs and you have network access, they provide a remote network program that allows full access to what the DVR on site sees as well as camera control if you purchase the cameras that have that feature.

Just about every major camera manufacturer has some type of IP camera product line......one of the biggest things to consider is the comparability with the Network video recorder. Some of the bigger outfits are: Axis, IQInvision, Panasonic, Pelco, Bosch.

IP cameras are great within an "interior" campus network or building network that is 10/100 or gigabit ethernet. The cabling is easy (PoE CAT5E or CAT6), the images are very detailed and the cameras can be megapixel and above. There are "hybrid" DVRs now that support analog and IP cameras. The cost of IP cameras is two to four times the price of analog cams and viewing IP cameras over the internet could have higher bandwidth requirements than analog due to the higher resolutions. For simpler residential installations of 4, 8 or 16 cams where the customer wants to view and control remotely - it may be better to stick with analog.
