We have two IDS systems which receive LCR updates in exchange for an annual fee. Apparently this service is being discontinued and we're being offered a buy-out to purchase rights to this software.
The whole LCR subscription deal has always been somewhat nebulous to me. It seems to be a way to update the system with new area codes. One one of our systems, all LD goes out an LD T-1 and local calls go out a local T-1. On the other system (in a different location) all calls whether local or LD go out their T-1.
Do we need LCR at all? If so, can I simply update the LD tables myself?

LCR is the only route selection capability that the IDS has - there is no ARS. Without LCR users would need to dial X (say 9) for local calls and 8 for toll calls. There is no mechanism to update the tables yourself. How much do they want for buyout? Mike

$535 per system.
Do area codes play into this situation at all? I seem to remember needing an LCR update to take new area codes into account.

Yes, area codes play a part - however you can add a certain amount in the L screen (3rd page). Area codes added won't cost correctly, but they'll route. What other option do they offer? $535 to buy out or what? Mike

INS is a fake LCR that appears in acpu's if you don't load LCR, but it doesn't work with PRI. - no store and dial

INS is "digit insert" - really all it will do is add a 9 or some other digit typically to get past a centrex. Later ACPUs do have a store and dial for PRI so that they don't require LCR. But no route selection - all calls go out the same trunk group. Mike

Do you recall which acpu's have store and dial without lcr? I use a lot of the 3.0.0x9, but haven't stumbled upon it yet...
thanks!

Look in the M screen - 2nd page right column. It's there. Mike

LCR is Lease Cost Routing. In the olden days local and long distance would have been separated as in your case. If you have the provider of those T-1s make both of them available for local and long distance and put them in the same trunk group on their side, then program all of the channels in the Executone system to use the same outgoing group there will be no need for route selection and therefore no need for LCR or any updates.
If your not having fun, go find something else to do.
