Can the hold key/lamp light up on a 264/265 or 2564/2565 1A2 set? If yes, who can tell me, in small words, what leads need in the phone need to be connected? I have some ideas and ability to light the hold key will help.
Thanks in advance.

Mark, the hold lamp usually doesn't have any factory connections. You can use any spare pair (yellow-blue works well) and connect it to the HL and LG terminals for that lamp position. You'll probably need to put a 51A lamp in the socket as well. You can then send 10 volts AC in on this pair to make it light.

Ed -
I'm going to have to go down the dreaded basement and look at the prints, but I thought that the 2564 phones came with the Y/G pair wired to the Hold Lamp.
The Stromberg Carlson sets came with the hold lamp wired because the sets were designed for a "buttons-up" Intercom. It was very popular with secretaries because you would answer the phone, press the hold button and then when the button popped up you were automatically on the intercom to call whomever the call was for.

Thanks, Ed. My idea is that the red hold lamp might make a good message waiting indicator using a simple set of switches (on/off).
Sam: I thought the Y/G pair was used to power the 10V intercom buzzers. What is the customary color pair to use for the 10V buzzer?

My ITT drawings show the Y/G connected to the hold lamp. I've always used the Y/O for the 10 volt buzzers.

Mark-
We always used Y/O for buzzers. The older Weco sets used Y/B as I recall. It would make an excellent MW lamp.

It was also used to indicate that the switchhook intercom was busy.

Since the OP didn't mention whether the 2565 was WECO or ITT, I just assumed it was a WECO set. WECO used Y/G for the buzzers in XX65 sets, but Y/O in XX64 sets. I think that was a major snafu in the grand scheme of things. Why they chose to stir the standard is beyond me.

They finally got their meds adjusted when the 83x and 283x series came out. Ringer on Y/Sl, buzzer on Y/Or.
That was due to the clever way that the pairs were assigned, counting down, and back up, for all 9 PU's.
