Was this on all lines & phones, or only 1 line or phone?
If it was all phones but only 1 line, then I would suspect the line unit (400D or ??)is failing.
If it is only on 1 phone, then there maybe something wrong with the key shelf of that phone.
OR, someone may have changed the way the 10VAC is distributed, and you may need to double check the fuses.

"My car makes a funny noise. Can you tell me what's wrong with it?"
As a starting point, if you were to let us know the brand and model of the KSU, we might be able to help. Then tell us if you are describing a condition on one phone, all phones, some phones, all lines, one line, some lines?
If the KSU is a 584 panel, it might be the steady lamp fuse.
If not, then it might be the 400 KTU.

It was on all 5 lines and all phones ? "is" or "was" ? Is that a statement or a question? ![[Linked Image from sciencecases.org]](https://www.sciencecases.org/teeth/title.gif)

Is the interrupter working?
Is it plugged in all the way?
Do you get lamp wink when the lines are on hold?
Do you hear the motor turning?
Is it a solid state interrupter?
Have you checked all the fuses?
Did the system take a lightning hit?

When you say "line rings in lite lights" is that a steady lite or flashing, how about the bells cb or per line. all lines all phones sounds like interrupter, trouble.

I'm with the rest of the guys. If it's a shoebox/501/601 and it happened on all lines and all phones then it' probably the interruptor.
If it's a 584 panel then it could either be the interruptor or one of the flat fuses on the back of the unit that (as Arthur said) supplies "steady lamp voltage".

I was going to say to try swapping the interruptor from one of the unused panels, assuming it is identical (power down the system first, hot-swapping is frowned on with 1A2).
But, if I read your last post right, you are saying that there were 4 blown fuses on the 584 panel? I don't know if I'm reading that right, because it would seem that nothing would be working at that point. If that is true, then you need to find out what caused that. Two possible causes come to mind: A wildly malfunctioning power supply, or a 25-pair amphenol laying in a puddle on the floor somewhere.
