Has anyone out there heard of a 51A control unit by WE? I thought it was a typo for the Model 55 control unit but a photo clearly shows 51A. It says it controlled a speakerphone but which one? The model 55 controlled the 3A, did earlier ones have a control unit?

The 55A and 55B are used for 3-type speakerphone service.
The 54A is used for Farm Interphone service
The 51A is used for Home Interphone service.
Where do you see the photo of the 51A? Is it for sale?

I saw it on eBay. As I recall, the Home Interphone used special phones. They looked like a 2-line Princess or 554 or 500 but the switch could turn both ways to put you into door mode or house intercom mode. Just saw one in my lifetime but it was very neat.

Yes, you would need not only the special phones, (they have a transmitter unit built in for hands-free use) but also the small speaker unit that was mounted at the front door of the home.

I hope you were the lucky bidder Arthur. I saw a 51A control unit and two phones go for over a $1000. Wondered what happened that made them so rare and valuable?
