I need to dispose of what I think is an old 1A2 phone system. The PBX was made in February 1984, and has Tone Commander Simplex 10 stamped on it. I found a manual online here:

Tone Commander Simplex IO technical manual

Here is a photo of the PBX and the two types of phones we have, 8 total:

These phones have been used hard for over 20 years, we upgraded because many of them were starting to get crosstalk with the hold sound and static...

I have a few questions:

Would anyone pay me to ship them somewhere for refurbishment and resale so should I send emails to the few companies that sell these phones?

If not, should I throw in trash, or would they be better in an electronics recycling bin?

Does anyone have a sound file of the hold ping on this unit? I'd like to transfer that to our current system but neglected to digitize it before we cut the cables.

Thank you, Will

Do not throw them away! Some of us, myself included, would be able to find a new home for the phones. Maybe not the KSU, but I can tell you that I can always use another 6 button phone!

Thanks, it sounds then like a post in craigslist is at least warranted.. the drag is the cost of shipping, and that the installers cut through the 25 pair cable in some places to detach each phone...

Many of the guys have the tools and amphenol connectors so they can put new ones on the phones if need be.
Like I said, I would buy a phone or two.

Alls I want is $5 for a box and actual shipping charges paypalled. I'm near Seattle and would use UPS to ship. Phones weigh 5-lbs each, the KSU I'm guessing is near 20 pounds mostly because of the transformer. Oh, if you get the KSU going I would like a digital sample of the hold ping!

Both of the desktop variety handsets I have are shown below, I have four more of the wallmountable or desktop kind in addition to the two pictured below.

PM me what you want, your email address, your name and address and I'll ship it out and email you the charges and my paypal addy.

At one time, we all threw piles of this stuff out. Now that it is "vintage", many are finding that it's fun to resurrect and use them. Years ago, tons of candle stick and coffin phones went into the dump. I could just cry.
