This my first post, but reading everyone else's post has been most helpful. I collect (never sell) old telephones and 1A2 key eqt. Here is my dilema and if I am in the wrong catagory - my appologies. I gave my neighbor a nicely restored (pink) Princess telephone to his wife for XMAS. All they have is Magicjack. After some extensive re-work to the ringer, I got it to ring with my Magicjack....but no loop length issues at my house. In his house he has MJ run through all of the wiring with a newer (electronic) ringing phone in the bedroom. Bottom line is the Princess won't ring - obviously insufficient voltage. I have a spare WE 118A Ring Gen at my house. Is there a way to wire it to the Princess and not fry the MJ so I can get the Princess to ring? I can sort of get a half a** ring sometimes at his house, not consistent. I know there are devices to boost ring voltage to 95VAC+ but they are expensive. Just wondering if my spare 118A could be made to work. Any help would be appreciated. Merry Christmas and thank you for your help. Al

I don't believe you can. You will need a ring booster that Mike Sandman sells.
You could also try releasing the bias spring. That can sometime help. Or try for an external ringer that will run on a lower voltage. Measure ringing current off of the magic jack and see what you're getting.
Also, does the princess even have a ringer? I thought it used to get wired to an External bell.

Yes, Sam. It is a single-gong ringer though. Al, I have to agree with Sam on this one. The Magic Jack puts out ringing voltage that is barely within spec for a standard ringer. It is also extremely sensitive to much inside wiring connected to it. Mine won't ring all three phones in my house either. The only solution is a ring booster. Sorry.

Thank you both for the quick replies. I sorta figured it would have to be a ring booster or external lower voltage ringer. I did adjust the bias spring as well as the the bell itself to no avail. I will purchase a ring booster as I want the phone to ring as it should. Thank you again. Al

I have noted one odd thing about the Sandman voltage boosters: if you pick up the phone mid-ring, you'll sometimes hear a buzz on the headset as the ring booster disengages. On the plus side, if your phones have any sort of special ring cadence, the booster will stay in sync nicely with incoming ring from the CO.
