I am working with an IPX500, Rev 14.67. I need to put a pause in the dial number of a library. According to the PI manual, dx will enter x seconds worth of delay in the dial string. It's not happening. What am I missing?

Originally I was trying to set up a button on my phone that will dial a 1800 number than dial an identification number when the other side answers.
Now, I'm trying to understand what use the Dx command is in the dial number of a library.

Excuse the abruteness. Sometimes, these Tadiran manuals seem like Hieroglyphics.

Have you taken the basic I&E classes?
I am assuming you are setting up the library
dial=1nxx5551212.d5.555 or something like that?
I THINK there is another code you have to enter to make it spit out DTMF tones. The real book to look at for this quite frankly is the little booklet that comes with the telephone.

Finally got time to check the quick reference guide and it says to use *x to insert a x second pause. Tried programming a private speed dial on a phone to dial my private number, wait 4 seconds then dial 1234. Grapped my phone on the first ring, and waited. No 1234. The phone display shows the 1234 dialed right after the phone number. I've changed the out trk to our PRI trunk group to bypass LCR, in case number of digits was restricting or truncating the outbound dial string.
PI says Dx, Quick Reference says *x and neither work. If I had hair, I'd pull it out. This is not a critical problem. I'm just afraid some customer will ask me to do it some day. Could possible play games with library and LCR to pull it off, but shouldn't it work like it says?
And I did my I&M 1 last April under Jim Fisk. Dial strings was kinda just brushed over. Understand they're not offering I&M 2 anymore.
